RYA Cruising Level 1 - Start Sailing
The RYA Cruising Level 1 - Start Sailing course is for the novice. It is a short introduction to sailing, giving you a basic understanding of yacht handling under power. Puerto Calero offers you an ideal environment for your first taste of sailing.
This course is 16 hours and we run it over 2 days as a non-residential course. By the end of these two days you will have sailed upwind and downwind, hoisted the sails, helmed the boat, learnt how to tie three of the maritime knots – Figure of Eight, Round Turn and Two Half Hitches and a Bowline and gained a background knowledge of safety on board.
On successful completion you will be awarded with the RYA Cruising Level 1 – Start Sailing certificate.
It is then advised you do RYA Cruising Level 2 – Basic Skills.
Cruising Level 1 – Start Sailing and RYA Cruising Level 2 – Basic Skills combined count as 2 days towards to your RYA Competent Crew Sailing Course.
